The Moral of the Story Is....
Around the middle of October, I ordered three more braids of Autumn Flame, which is a BFL and silk blend. When they arrived, I left them in the plastic bag they were shipped in and put them away, thinking that this would keep them from getting messed up. When I got back to them, I discovered that the fiber compacted. On the one hand, this isn't so bad, it just means that I have to do a whole lot of fluffing before I spin. On the other hand, it means that it doesn't draft nicely or evenly at all, leading to a lot of thick and thin spots.
If there is a moral to the story, I would guess it to be to not store fiber in the plastic bag it's been shipped in. The other lesson is probably to spin what you have first, before getting caught up in other projects.
