Re-Direction
One thing that has been noted about the Occupy Wall Street movement is that it doesn't appear to have a direction. That no one has articulated any demands. Well, I aim to rectify that situation.
This movement is misdirected. And, when the people who can be on scene physically figure it out, Washington D.C. should be afraid...very afraid. Because the space people need to be occupying is right in front of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
So, how did we get here?
1. Congress repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, which was put into place after the Great Depression, to keep banks from putting us into this situation, again.
2. Congress repealed several Wall Street regulations and weakened the oversight agencies, turning the stock market into the biggest crap shoot outside of Las Vegas.
3. Congress wrote the tax laws in such a way that corporations pay no taxes on income earned overseas. Wonder why the jobs left?
4. Congress revamped campaign money rules in such a manner that corporations can donate as much as they want, without having to disclose who they are or how much they have given.
WHAT DO WE WANT?
1. Put the regulation and oversight back into the banking industry.
2. Put the regulation and oversight back into Wall Street.
3. Enforce meaningful penalties for violations of the above.
4. Tax corporations on all profits, no matter where they are earned.
5. Put the limits back on how much corporations can donate to candidates and full disclosure as to who, and how much.
Congress needs to LEGISLATE on behalf of the 99% who have elected them to office, not the 1% who have bought them.
At least, it's a start.
