An Epic Journey, of Sorts

This has been one hell of a summer.  I started spinning my Tardis batts for the Tour de Fleece and was promptly interrupted by the fires that started Fourth of July weekend.  We packed up and got ready, just in case we needed to leave.  And while I didn't make any kind of goal for the Tour, I continued on at a pace my work allowed for.

A thunderstorm rolled through the area August 13, and where I live looked like this:

The majority of the two counties to the west of us were on fire as well.  This summer, over a million acres in Washington State went up in flames.  Many homes and outbuildings were lost, and three firefighters were killed.

Spinning and knitting are how I keep my sanity.  The amount of thought that goes into planning a project helps me think on things other than work, while knitting helps keep me calm and focused.

Tardis turned into yarn, and it made its way onto my needles.

Eventually, the fires were contained, road were opened, and people allowed back to their property. Even Tardis came to an end.

I blocked the edges a little harder than I should have, trying to keep the edges from curling up, and so lost some of the gathers.  I'm going to work with it just a little bit more to see if I can fix it.  Then my part of this journey is done, and Tardis will go to its next companion.

The pattern is So I gather, by Susan Ashcroft.
