Mayhem and Monsters

Ken Moore, of The Homestead Hobbyist, provided the fiber for the Sweets Off the Wheel May-hem spin-along.  I chose the monsters braids, without sparkle.

Fiber content:

37.5% Corriedale
25% 23.5 micron Merino
12.5% Bamboo
12.5% Tussah Silk
8.75% 25 micron Merino

I've been so excited about my last couple of spins and have forgotten to take pictures of the braids before taking them apart.  At least I remembered, this time, before they were both turned into singles:

Initially, I thought I would spin the braids separately and then knit something striped, so I sampled.  After looking at the green sample by itself, I decided that it just needed something.  So I took a bit of both braids and tried drafting them together (third from left).  I really liked this.  It was green with just a bit of an oil-type sheen to it.  The down side was that it absolutely killed my hands to draft, and I'm not sure why, since neither braid was, in itself, problematic.  I tried blending small sections with a dog comb, and I tried blending small sections with a hair pick, but neither result was satisfactory.  I had been resisting plying the braids together, but that's what I did to get close to the result that I wanted.

I've never played noddy chicken before, but this is what it looks like:

The variety of blues, purples, and greens keep the yarn interesting.

This will become a sweater-type object, eventually.  A pattern has not yet been selected, and I have other projects to finish, first.
