Favorite Spin of 2018

Shortly after the beginning of the year, the question was posed, "What was your favorite spin of 2018?" It was at that point that I realized how long it takes me to complete a project, since only two spins qualified, and I actually started this one late December 2017.

This is mulberry silk brick from Hilltop Cloud that I acquired through a destash on Ravelry, and it is the most gorgeous fiber I have laid hands on, to date.  The heft, the sheen, the colors-blue, purple-blue, and green-it reminded me very much of this version of Monet's water lilies:

I started spinning this December 20, 2017, and did not finish until June 12, 2018. The majority of my crafting takes place while I am on night shift; after all, what else are you going to do at 3 a.m., while normal people are sleeping?

Silk wants to be thin, which can be kind of crunchy, if you're not careful.  Therefore, I decided to spin a three-ply yarn.  Three plies would help even out the thin parts, and silk can be soft and squishy, if handled carefully.

But three-ply yarn also eats up yardage.  This brick was over 4.5 ounces, and I only managed 400 yards of three-ply yarn.

The pattern is Tiare Scarf by Wendy Neal, and this was made for a dear friend who is allergic to wool.
