Summer Vacation Part II

We stopped at the Little Big Horn battlefield. Oddly enough, the battlefield didn't hold my attention as much as the view from the monument. You could see for miles in every direction, which lead to the nomination of the theme song for this year's trip - I Can See for Miles.

The plains of southeastern Montana and northwestern Wyoming are amazing in that they are not nearly as flat as I thought they would be. They roll a little, but it's more a matter of clefts and ravines.

However, the stretch between Casper and Cheyenne was much flatter and endless. Not only could you see for miles, but there was absolutely nothing to be seen. The soil is very different from the area of the country I live in. It's thin, hardscrabble, and doesn't appear suitable for farming. I can definitely see why this is prime cattle country.

I can never completely get away from work, as I looked at all that country and wondered how on earth you would ever find someone who was lost out there.

"What do you see?"

"I see rocks.....and grass....and sage...."
