A Riddle, Wrapped in a Mystery...
Rescue Chicken has turned into a riddle. We don't know what breed it is, and thought that perhaps it was a Silver-Laced Wyandotte, based on some silver scallops we thought we saw. Further investigation indicates it may be an Australorp, except that the feet are the wrong color. It looks a lot like this:
But the feet are not completely black. They're more of a flesh color, with black spots around the shins and ankles.
It is also a complete mystery as to whether this is a hen or a rooster. There are some suspicious, rooster-type tail feathers beginning to emerge, but there aren't enough of them to determine. The stance doesn't help, either. Most times, it's more horizontal, but sometimes, it's more vertical.
Here's a picture of a pair of adult Australorps:
The green sheen on the feathers is gorgeous. However, if Riddle Chicken turns out to be a rooster, he will be headed out to the Chicken Palace, posthaste.
