In which I'm a Slow Learner
Guts:  "That doesn't look right."
Brain:  "It's fine."
G:  "Are you sure?  I don't think it looks right."
B:  "This is something new.  I'm not sure exactly what it should look like, but it's fine."
G:  "You realize that will probably double in size, right?  You should probably stop right now and make a sample."
B:  "It might, but I don't need to make a sample.  It's fine."
G:  "Dude, I'm telling you, this doesn't look right.  You need to make a sample."
B:  "And I'm telling you it's fine."
G:  "Make a sample."
B:  "Fine.  Anything to get you to shut up."
Needless to say, it wasn't fine.  It was underspun, and it did double in size.   Fortunately, I have learned just enough that I didn't lose what I had spun.  I was able to make the necessary adjustments and save what I had done.
Moral of the story:
1.  Listen to your guts.
2.  Make a sample, especially if it's fiber or a preparation that is new to you.
