Mallard Scarf

I made a gift for a very dear friend who recently retired.

This is a braid of Mallard (discontinued) from Hilltop Cloud.  It is a beautiful mixture of merino, BFL, and alpaca, and it is so very soft.

I split the braid into thirds, working on the first third with my spindle, while on vacation.  I spun the remaining two thirds on my Ladybug, after finishing the Corridale.  The lessons learned from the Corriedale were very valuable, in that I managed to spin those two thirds neither too tightly nor too thinly.  Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the spindled third.  It wasn't over spun, but it was drafted thinner than I intended.

Approximately 116-118 yards of the squishiest yarn I've managed, yet.   I love the color and the softness.

The Yarn Harlot's One Row Handspun Scarf , and the above became this:

This scarf works, but it is shorter than what I would have liked.

I have one braid of Moorhen that will become a scarf for Thing Two.  Since it is the last braid of its kind as well, I am spinning it into a two ply, in hopes that I will get more yarn out of it.  It will be interesting to see not only how much yarn that yields, as I am trying not to spin it too fine, but to see how the ply will affect the appearance of the stitches and the texture of the scarf, as I intend to use this same pattern for it.
